A lot of the links we were supposed to chose from weren’t working for me, so in this case, I just picked the first one that popped up that worked.
Women in certain parts of the world have a tough time when it comes to issues that arise involving their health. Gender norms tend to affect this as well. According to the World Health Organization (2014), some women have trouble getting to places such as health clinics as their culture does not allow for women to walk alone. The case study I chose; State of the Art Report Health Risks in Aquifer Recharge Using Reclaimed Water is a list of health risks that comes with reclaiming and reusing water. “Viruses are the smallest infectious agents. They come in different shapes and vary in size from 0.01 to 0.3 m in diameter. Viruses consist of either deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleicacid (RNA), surrounded by a layer of protein, which may in turn be surrounded by a lipid membrane.” Viruses and bacteria in some water can be small but can cause various health issues. If women were to be affected by such health issues, and their cultures become part of what keeps them from treatment, it puts them at the hand of nature in a sense.
The rise in climate change often produces warmer water and climates and within these conditions the risk of malaria rises in certain countries. Women are often more affected than men in these cases as they can often produce more body heat than men. “The study also found that the abdomen of pregnant women was on average 0.7 °C hotter than that of non-pregnant women and that there may be an increase in the release of volatile substances from the skin surface and a larger host signature that allows mosquitoes to detect them more readily at close range.” (World Health Organization, 2014). It’s interesting that a natural state for women becomes something that can have an affect on them in cases such as malaria. In third world countries, often times males are more valued than females, this means that they may become the ones who received things such as food and water along with medical care.

Wk5 DB1
Prepare: Prior to tackling this second discussion question, again cook up some popcorn and watch the assigned movie, Cold War. As always, make sure you have the discussion questions handy as you watch the movie so that you can take some notes and respond effectively to these questions.
Reflect: Although communists and capitalists united during World War II to crush fascism, Hitler’s defeat set the stage for allies to become adversaries once more. The movie frames the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union as the defining conflict of much of the 20th century. You will be shown how the world’s then- two superpowers faced off in an uncompromising showdown over ideology and economics that would persist for five decades—not in a vacuum, but under the omnipresent threat of nuclear holocaust.
Write: In your initial post of at least 200 words, answer the following questions about the movie, Cold War: What political ideologies were in conflict during the Cold War? What economic systems were in conflict during the Cold War? Why did the U.S.S.R ultimately dissolve? Is the U.S. in or entering into a new Cold War with Russia? Why or why not?

◦ Describe effective methods you used in identifying and narrowing down to just one of the topics to further research for your Final Paper.
The method I used to identify my topic was by using research to identify the areas that I am interested in. The areas that interest me is environmental. I research the Global Water Shortage and Global Climate Change. These two topics have many published resources to use for topic selection. I found that there is more scholarly research for the global climate change subject. It also helped me narrow it down to man-made effect that influence global warming. The Global Climate Change is more widely researched or explain as Global Warming. It also has seemed to be further focused on Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission as well this maybe even more focused subject within global warming to help develop my thesis question and statement.
◦ Explain three ways you can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly.
You can use the CRAAP Test to evaluate or critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly and appropriate for college research. In the education video “Evaluating Sources” by Ashford University (2016) the explain the CRAAP test breaking it down as Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy and Purpose. The three out of these five you can use is currency, authority and accuracy. Currency identifies at what time this source was published. Websites are a good example looking at the currency lets you know the last time the information was evaluated. Authority also help you analyze if the authority of the source has the knowledge base to speak on the subject. A blog could be an example of checking the authority. Accuracy is another way to review a source. A scholarly is reviewed by peers and professional on that subject and identified as truthful and accurate.
◦ Summarize information from at least two scholarly journal articles from the Ashford University Library that will support your claims for your chosen topic. Explain why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.
The first Article I chose was “Effect of automobiles on global warming: A modeling study” by Shyam Sundar, Ashish Kumar Mishra and Ram Naresh (2017) where they evaluate how “increasing demand and excessive use of automobiles have increased the level of carbon dioxide emission in the environment, providing a significant contribution to increase the global warming.” They deep dive into the effect of CO2 emissions of automobiles through mathematical equation that evaluates “density of human population, density of automobiles and the concentration of carbon dioxide” (Sundar, 2017). It also gives an assessment of stabilization of emission through this analysis which gives a reverse argument to consider. This is important because I can see this as an area of focus under the effects of a man-made devices and what action may be taken in my research paper. The second “Sensitivity of Global Warming to Carbon Emissions: Effects of Heat and Carbon Uptake in a Suite of Earth System Models” by Richard Williams, Vassil Roussenov, Phillip Goodwin, Laure Resplandy, and Laurent Bopp (2017) about the “simple emergent relationship for our future climate: surface warming in- creases nearly linearly with the cumulative CO2 emitted since the preindustrial age.” This article would help my research by understanding the effects and causes of the earth’s surfaces reaction to fossil fuel CO2 emissions.

Agency Review
this paper will examine the workings of a federal , state , or local , , in order to complete
Explain your interest in leadership.
Please answer the question with your own substantive input. Also, you must reply to the posts of at least 2 other students in the class. You should participate throughout the week so others will be able to respond to your input and you to theirs.
DB POSTING REMINDERS: Please remember the initial post should be written as early in the week as possible (no later than Wednesday, 11:59PM EST), and the peer responses are due by Saturday evening. Be sure to reference your eText or other research to support your response. You will be graded on how you relate the class readings to your initial post. Apply appropriate examples that illustrate your points – feel free to bring your workplace experiences into the discussion. It helps us all learn when we can relate our past workplace experiences to what we’re learning here in the discussions. When you make your initial post, please fully answer the question and make substantive responses – i.e. at least 150 to 300 words that really dive into the topic and show that you’ve read in your texts and done research to support your opinions.
Discussion / Student reply
Interview a friend, family member, co-worker, or someone else who is unaffiliated with the political science discipline. Ask them the following questions:
*What is your opinion of the Supreme Court? What shaped this perception?
*How well do you think Supreme Court justices do their job? To what extent do partisan politics influence their rulings?
Summarize this person’s comments and reflect on them. Do you think this person’s opinion reflects that of the majority of Americans? Why or why not? Of all three branches of government, the Supreme Court has a reputation for being insulated from or resistant to party pressures and swings of public opinion. Do you see this reputation eroding today? If so, what impact does that have on American politics and how might citizen’s faith in the Court be restored?
*Note: Reaction posts should be approximately 2 paragraphs in length.

I chose to call my mom and interview her, given she has a background in political science and international affairs. Her opinion of the Supreme Court was mostly impartial and fair. This perception, she said, came from the fact that the Supreme Court is supposed to work based off of the constitution and not impart any party biases into their decisions. While different political partied presidents have appointed judges that they believe express their best interest, my mother found that they still were fair in their decisions and worked based off of the constitution. I think this opinion from my mother is one that is held among the majority of Americans, especially ones with higher education backgrounds. Knowing that the Supreme Court decides on constitutionality rather than party platforms is a key part of knowing how the Supreme Court is supposed to operate, something that my mom reiterated a number of times.
When I asked my mom about how well she believes the justices do their job, she said that they are typically firm but fair in their decisions. She believes that they adhere to their guidelines of deciding constitutionality of cases rather than impart party biases and ideas into their decisions. This is something that I also believe most Americans hold to be true in regard to the Supreme Court and the inner workings of it.
I do not see the reputation of the Supreme Court being insulated from party pressures being eroded. Cases that come through now are modern issues such as gay marriage and immigration, and while there are always party supporters who will not be happy with a decision on one side or the other, the Supreme Court is very good at determining whether laws stand or should be refuted based on how closely they adhere to the constitution and its amendments. New amendments can sometimes arise from these decisions, allowing for the Supreme Court to have a bigger hand in decision making.
Analysis of a current issue in the politics of developing countries
You are open as to which issue you choose to present on but the issue must be directly related to development. In addition to presenting on a topic of your choice, you will analyze the issue from one of the theoretical perspectives covered in the course.
Specifically, your essay must include the following components:
– The use of at least 3 outside sources (other than the texts used in the course)
– Analysis of the issue from a modernization, dependency, neoliberal/globalization school of thought, sustainable development or post-modern/post-colonial theory
– Include at least one visual component in your paper – you may reference a map, chart, grid or picture (be sure to cite your source.)
