Here are some of the questions that you should consider as part of your assignment, but it is not required that you specifically answer these; it is most important that you really focus on the above assignment question. you should cite primary sources, i.e., surviving feudal documents, as much as possible. It is best to focus on three or four characteristics, no more than that, so that you can cover each topic in some depth. One important feature of feudalism that you will want to treat is the relationship between lord and vassal. Why did feudalism develop after the fall of the Roman empire? How did the practice of feudalism vary across Europe? Did the characteristics of feudalism change over time? Yes, feudalism is complicated, but it is important to understand the feudal system as many scholars have seen feudalism as an important prerequisite for the development of western democracy. As you read feudal documents, you will come across some terms that you are probably unfamiliar with. As a historian, that happens all the time, and that is why we have dictionaries, encyclopedias and other reference materials. You will find these three websites helpful for your work on this assignment. FAS 110CL Assignment 5 Design on a Dime (Theatre Class)
For this assignment, you are the designer!
A costume is an extension of the character and often our first look at who they are. Costumers must address the needs of the performer as well as the needs of the production. Sometimes, costumers have unlimited resources at their disposal, and other times they have very little to work with. You have $5 and your imagination.
You must create a costume for one of the characters we have encountered in the plays we have read during this course. You may spend no more than $5 and you must account for every penny of those five dollars. You must also account for every item you wear, listing where you found it (borrowed, your own closet, purchased, etc.) and how much you spent.
You must address: – Clothing – Shoes – Hair – Accessories (if any)
You must have a reason for choosing each piece. Remember, you must account for everything you wear (where it came from and how much it cost, if anything). You could very well accomplish this without spending a dime.
You will write and submit a paper addressing the following:
1. State the character/play you are designing a costume for and why you chose this particular character. 2. Discuss how you obtained each piece of clothing and each accessory, detailing how much you spent on each piece, if anything. 3. Explain why you chose each piece of clothing and accessory. How do these pieces communicate character? What do they say about this person?
You must include a photo of yourself or someone you know wearing your creation. Your instructor needs to see your design in order to evaluate it. You may embed it in the text of your paper or attach it as a separate file when you submit the paper to the Dropbox.
Your instructor will be looking for how well your costumes communicate character and how innovative you are with your budget. Be careful about brand names and logos. Nike may not be appropriate for Seth Holly as the play takes place before Nike existed. Find creative solutions for masking such things. Try your best to come up with a costume that is production ready. The more production ready your costume is, the higher your grade will be.
Submit this assignment to the Dropbox no later than Saturday 5PM EST/EDT. (This Dropbox basket is linked to Turnitin.)
Unit VI Outline This course has introduced and assessed many noteworthy figures related to the continuing buildup of the United States and its place within the world and globalization during the last 140 years. For this assignment, you will choose an influential civil rights figure from the mid-20th century to the present. Your selection may be taken from speakers or religious, economic, or social leaders. You may not use any U.S. President. This assignment is open to any reform discussed in this course (e.g., creed, race, age, status, or gender). Prepare an outline communicating that figure’s relevance in today’s modern era. Why and how is this figure important today? This is not a biography. Your argument should highlight how society remembers him or her now. For this assignment, you will be creating a one-page outline (minimum of 300 words) about your chosen figure. If you choose, this could be used to help write your transcript for the Unit VII assignment described below. Submit your outline in this unit. It is suggested, though not required, that you include potential sources. The goal of this assignment is to prepare you for the Unit VII assignment described below. However, it is not required that you use the same person from your Unit VI Outline for the Unit VII Scholarly Activity. If you do intend to use this outline in Unit VII, it is highly advised that you review the instructions below and prepare with that assignment in mind.
Suggestions for Writing an Effective Book Review
Style: Book reviews can be dry and formulaic or they can be lively and engaging. Opt for the latter if possible.
Comprehensiveness: You are reading a book that no one else in the class has likely read. Make sure to write as if the reader knows nothing about your subject. The goal of this book review is to both prove your mastery of the material at hand and to bring something new to the discussion of global history. Being comprehensive necessarily means that you will have to describe the contents of the book and retell a portion of the story. This paper, however, is not about repeating the arguments of the book uncritically. Find a good balance between retelling the story and bringing your own opinions to bear on the content.
Clarity: Good writing takes time and will likely require several drafts. Be sure to proofread for grammar and spelling, to include topic sentences, and pay attention to the flow of your narrative. Did you include an argument in your review? A judgment about its quality, whether people should read it, whether it adds to your understanding of global history? If so, make sure those statement are clearly positioned at the beginning (introduction) and end (conclusion) of the paper.
Evidence: Include citations from the book and quotes where appropriate. Feel free to reference material from class as well, always citing appropriately.
Author and audience: Knowing how wrote a work and why is an important part of understanding the value and meaning of a work. Does the author approach their subject fairly? Critically? Comprehensively?
Comparisons: Do you recognize any familiar events/people/historical trends from this book? Have we discussed anything similar in class? Make sure to place your book in the context of the class readings and discussion where applicable.
Criticisms: No book is perfect and you do not need to be an expert historian to find weaknesses. What does the book do well (don’t forget to be positive)? What could it have done more effectively? Was it clear? Convincing? A good story? Well-researched? Explain why with evidence.
Feel free to look at outside book reviews for examples and to come and ask me for guidance.

Prepare: Explore The Political Compass website and take the quiz. Take the time to notice where your responses landed you on the Political Compass grid and where that point is in relation to world leaders. Then, read Chapters 13 and 14 in your textbook and the article, “The Rise of Conservatism Since World War II.” Reflect: Consider the information on The Political Compass website–https://www.politicalcompass.org. How well did the information on the website conform to your own views of what “liberal” and “conservative” mean? How well did the information conform to the media’s portrayals of “liberal” and “conservative”? Think about the information that you read in the textbook and “The rise of conservatism since World War II.” Reflect on the reasons that conservatism gained more popular support in the last part of the 20th century and what effect conservative policies have had on different groups.
Write: Based on your textbook and the required article, explainAt least three reasons for the rise of conservatism in the last part of the 20th century. At least one way in which the rise of conservatism had been positive or negative for a specific group of Americans.
